Fine Bindings and Book Restoration

Hello and welcome to my website! I'm Yisrael Malkiel, Craft Bookbinder and expert Book Restorer.

I learnt the craft at Brignell Bookbinders in Cambridge, UK, alongside an expert bookbinder who runs a 150-year old traditional workshop. I also worked at the Cambridge Colleges’ Conservation Consortium, which undertakes conservation and restoration work for the rich collections of the University of  Cambridge libraries and archives.

Since 2016 I have worked as a freelance bookbinder in Jerusalem, Israel. From here I serve the book-lovers community: Collectors and book dealers as well as people like you and me, who can appreciate beautiful books and high standard craftsmanship.

I specialize in book restoration and fine bindings. This includes, if requested, professional paper conservation, carried out by my colleague, Ester Vogman. I also offer various types of boxes (Solander boxes, slipcases and more) for books, letters and other precious documents.

Each book is restored and bound in accordance with its original period and place of production.
